We have just had a weeks stay (7 nights pay for 6) at La Tortuga. We chose it after reading all the reviews and it was No 1 on the Trip advisor website . It read well and seemed like the sort of place that we were looking for. It was. Lovely and small in the touristy town of Playa del Carmen. It was one block back from the busy 5th Avenue, and two blocks from the beach. Everything was perfect for us, nice room (308) with balcony overlooking the pool. We ate at the restaurant attached called El Bristro, which I have to say has the best prawns on skewers, the steaks are like candyfloss - so we felt it was hard to beat and ate there three nights. The 50% voucher you get on arrival is well worth it. Great value for money. The mayan restaurant 3 blocks down to the left called Xanche was superb too, especially the pork cooked in the banana leaf. Conchita I think was the name of the dish.
The pool was lovely to collapse into at the end of a hectic day at the beach club. We preferred Sensi beach club. The reception staff were superb, very helpful and friendly.
