“The best secret on the Island of Bermuda”

Kingston House B&B

May 5, 2008

A++ stay with Harry and Marlie. Their Bermudian home and the appointments are first class. You want for nothing when you stay with the Powells. Need a ride? Want info on restaurants with local color..just ask! The mornings with the other guests around the lovely oak table help you to plan your day. Harry is present to assist you with whatever you wish to do. Actually, I do not wish to praise them too much as we shall be out of a room next year. Honestly, the best place to stay in BDA . We have stayed with the Powells for the past two years and we are going back next year. Thanks Harry and Marlie...Laureen and Phil Fuller

Kingston House B&B

We stayed at the Kingston House in the Bird of Paradise room. Our hosts, Harry and Marlie were very accommodating and helpful. Accommodation includes 2 twin beds that can be pushed together, a terrace with lounge chairs and gorgeous view, and en-suite bathroom facilities. Throughout the house there was an abundance of videos, magazines..etc about Bermuda. The continental breakfast, while quite consistent in the choices, provides for a good start of the day. There are many options in town for folks desiring eggs, meats..etc.

The only negative about staying here would be the walk into town. We were a little nervous at first about not having a sidewalk but did get used to it. This is not the only place you experience this, many attractions requires some walking too if you rely on buses like we did. However, it is about a mile to the bus/ferry terminal and if you have to walk to and from in addition to a full day of sightseeing it can become tiring. We felt like we have to pack everything we need everyday to take with us.

Overall, the accomodation is first class. The hosts are very friendly but not instrusive. Highly recommend!!

“cozy warmth at Kingston House”

Kingston House B&B

This is an incredibly cozy house on a quaint side-street right outside of Hamilton. The rooms are clean & well-kept, thoughtfully decorated and comfortable. The house itself is filled with charms, island trinkets, antiques, and plenty of sun. You feel right at home as soon as you walk through the front door.

We were very lucky to find a vacancy here, staying in the wonderfully sunny & warm Birds of Paradise room upstairs overlooking the front gate and lush grounds. The expansive south-facing patio is absolutely wonderful for relaxing and enjoying the sun without ever really leaving your room -- you'll want to sprawl there all day. There was also a small table and extra chairs provided, which came in handy for meals in (wine bottle openers are available as well). Other thoughtful amenities are available throughout the house including a pool with complementary towels, common patio with outdoor grill, a guest sink & fridge, a selection of herbal teas and hot chocolate, and a jar of ginger snap cookies for the road. There's also an expansive collection of DVDs, board games,
books, and even a PS2 to keep you occupied in case of bad weather.

Harry & Marlie are sweet hosts, always inquisitive of your schedule and quick to offer tips on where to go and how to get there. Knowing the potential dangers of the road into town after dark (no sidewalks, blind spots everywhere on the windy roads) and offering rides into town, as well as offering restaurant suggestions dependent upon your mood are helpful tips. Breakfasts are pleasant with conversation, with Harry always sitting by the table strumming up chatter, helping to set a nice & easy pace for the day. Unfortunately the breakfast selection is sparse-- fruit salad, cereals, bread, juice, and coffee constitute the majority of your choices and are consistent from day to day. It would've been nice to have hot food options once in a while, but perhaps this was just a customary island breakfast. From time to time conversation can drag and become awkward -- the island's conflicted attitude toward its own cultural make-up and Harry's day-to-day gripes can become awkward & repetitive topics to cover. But the home-roasted organic coffee is fabulous and almost makes it worth it to linger around the kitchen.

Overall we would recommend Kingston House for a cozy home-feel visit to the island.

    • Disliked — Harry's mildly imperious nature caused a slightly oppressive environment at times, but they are overall incredibly sweet hosts.

“Deserves No1 Rating”

Kingston House B&B

Kingston House definitely deserves its No1 rating. It is comfortable, clean, cosy (in the 2 days of bad weather we had) and with a great host. We don't normally stay in B&Bs but Harry made us very welcome and with his wealth of knowledge about the Island, soon had all the guests enjoying longer breakfasts than otherwise would have been the case. The food was excellent and Harry provides loads of different teas, cookies and the use of a fridge and other essential items to keep you watered and comfortable. There are also plenty of books, videos and DVDs to use in your room.
A big upside is that unlike many of the resorts, Hamilton town centre and a big choice of restaurants and bars is only a 15 min walk, which also make it well placed for the buses and ferries. The only downside is that the walk is along a narrow road with no footpath. However, most roads in Bermuda do not have a footpath and we soon knew where all the gateways were to step into when the sound of a car approached. Being from the UK, we didn't think it was a problem but it probably depends on whether you walk at home and whether it is always on wide footpaths. Harry always seems willing to offer a lift if you're tired or the weather is bad.
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and would definitely recommend it.

“Great stay at Kingston House”

Kingston House B&B

Mar 19, 2008

We have just returned from a short holiday in Bermuda where we stayed at Kingston House. There is no doubt that the warm welcome and advice from Marlie and Harry made a hugh contribution to the enjoyment of our time there.
The accomodation was comfortable and facilities good, and the position quite close to the ferry and bus terminals suited us well.
We would recommend Kingston House to anyone looking for a sensibly priced holiday in a great setting.
