We spent a few hours at Saqqara with our tour guide Rasha. Actual seeing the Step Pyramid is worth the trip alone. Other things to do are the various tombs that are scattered around. Teti's Pyramid is a must. Not too hard to descend into and beautiful inscriptions on the walls and ceilings. There is also a new Imhotep Museum... more

We took a day tour with Rasha that included these pyramids. While the pyramids of Giza are in the middle of a bustling city, these are in the countryside. I enjoyed the drive in the air-conditioned van going to Saqqara as much as the pyramids themselves. The countryside is absolutely beautiful, with fields of palm trees. We also saw real... more

As you leave the city of Cairo, you also leave behind the pollution, noise, hustle and bustle. Saqqara means Sugar Cane and as you leave the city you start to see the farms of Sugar Cane, Dates, Tea and other crops. The Step Pyramid was the starting point for the Pyramids as we know them and is over 5100 years... more

I got to know of the place while I was there. This is a must. We got a taxi to take us about for the day. $30 each we spent over 7 hours and included this towards the end. more

Saqqara was one of my must-see destinations. After the bustle at Giza, it was great to travel through rural surroundings and visit a relatively uncommercialised historical site. The pyramids are awe-inspiring, the wall drawings are beautiful and there is the sense that the complex has existed for ever. I found the site very atmospheric. The only downside for me was... more

I think anyone who has been to Cairo can tell you how busy and noisy the city is- a wonderful place, but after a few days you want to get out of the crowds. My husband and I went to Saqqara and Dashur on our last day in Cairo and loved it. The pyramids are quiet- there was absolutely no... more

On our first day in Cairo, our tour guide took us to Saqqara, Memphis, Giza (Pyramids and Sphinx). In between, he took us to a papyrus shop and a perfume shop.
